Panasonic has announced the compact micro four thirds Lumix DMC-GF1. Best described as everything you like about the very good G1, stuffed into a camera body along the lines of the LX3, plus 720p HD video. Sensor and mount are the same as the Olympus E-P1, this being another in a growing line of micro four thirds cameras. The Panasonic Lumix GF1 is a 12.1-megapixel Micro Four Thirds camera, which offers a more compact form factor than its predecessors, the G1 and GH1 . The new Lumix GF1 looks more like the Olympus E-P1 ; however the GF1 also offers a pop-up flash, a feature that I sorely missed on the Olympus E-P1. Panasonic unveiled the Lumix DMC-GH1 today, sticking true to their word that a version of the G1 would get high definition video added to it. Not expected, though was full 1080p video. I have to say I thought for sure, given what’s happening with Panasonic’s compacts, that 720p would be the HD format of choice.
