5 Stars One of the best Christmas gifts we’ve given each other
I won’t belabor the technical specs on this Blu Ray player. Amazon presents them far better than I could.
What I will say is that there is a noticeable difference just watching my old DVDs and listening to music CDs. The picture is sharper and the action is crisper. Plus, the sound is flawless.
Blu Ray presentations are comparable to what I’ve seen in the theatre. They are well worth the price difference. I questioned whether we should make the upgrade, but I am glad we did!

4 Stars Sony BDP-S550
This is a very good player, it was easy to setup and I have not had any problems with it since I’ve had it. Well worth the price as some of the box stores have the S330 for the same price or more.
5 Stars Worth the wait
The Sony BDP-S550 is what I was waiting for, in that it has all the sound processing built-in to play on older receivers. My only complaint is that there hasn’t been enough software made to take advantage of the better audio formats (i.e. DTS-HD).
5 Stars Worth it for me
Im no audiophile.I just know what I like. With a Sony 50″720 I was waiting to be diapointed and I wasnt.Watched Dark Knight and thought the picture was as good as I was getting on my HD channels.Should only be better with 1080.Also after Dark Knight we watched an ep of Rescue Me,and I was pleasently surprised that the upscaling was better,to me,then the Sony upscaling dvd player we are using now.On a side note, didnt want to order online, wanted to be able to take back somewhere and see someone face to face if I didnt like it,so even though it was on sale, told the sales person what it was online, free shipping,no tax,and could they do better. For a box store, got them to knock off another $15 off the sale price.Hey,money on the table.I never do that, but I really had my info right on this player.
4 Stars Sony BDP-S550
As far as Blu-ray goes, I would wait If I was you. There is very little difference between 1080P upscale and Blu-ray. Don’t waste the money just yet. Wait til the prices come down. I bought this player and it does everything it should. But, There are black lines on top and the bottom of the picture. This is from the movies I am told. If I have a 1080P Plasma T.V. shouldn’t the picture fill the whole screen? I thought so, eveidently because this is the way the movies are made there are black lines on top and the bottom. So the picture doesn’t fill the whole screen. This is B.S.! My suggestion, wait, wait, wait!!!
