User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Digital vs Analog
Regarding your decision whether to drop $300 on an 8 foot cable for a digital signal… it really will not make a difference. With a digital signal, the receiving end only has to tell the difference between ON and OFF – if the signal comes over as 4.9v instead of 5v; or varies a little; it makes literally absolutely 0 difference in picture quality as it’s still interpreted correctly as a 1 or a 0; and then the bits are assembled into a visual image. At the point where the receiver is getting confused between an ON and an OFF signal over an 8ft cable run… is the point where you should be checking that your dog is not chewing on your cable. (And not that your cable is not “nitrogen bubble micro-injected” or doesn’t have “twin neuro-demagnatronizing halon super-cores”)

5 Stars Killer Monster Cable
Monster Cable has always made excellent quality products and this one is no exception. Top quality at a reasonable price.

1 Star Don’t waste your money on this cable!
I paid 108.00 for the 4ft. version of this cable at Best Buy. Bought my next HDMI cable off of Amazon for 6 bucks. (Not Monster of course) I can see no difference in the picture or sound quality. Test it for yourself, you be the judge. Why waste your money>

5 Stars Great Price
These cables are $129.99 at Best Buy. They are now $39.77 from Amazon.com! You have to be nuts or have money to burn to pay a $130 for an 8 foot hunk of shielded cable and 2 connectors! Monster must have spectacular gross margins.

1 Star Not a Bonded, 1.3 HDMI Cable
After reading some of the reviews on this item, I had to drop my $.02 There is currently only 1 bonded, certified 1.3 HDMI cable in the world, at the moment. The brand is Belden, not Belkin, and I have zero affiliation and I do not sell any audio/video gear either. I simply want the best cable at the best price to maximize my video and audio components.

Google the brand and you’ll find out Belden cable is not Chinese made, but made in the US. And when read through the volumes of technical information on the cable, you’ll come to a point where you’ll either purchase one or not. But compare the cost of a true audio/video-phile cable and a mass marketed brand like Monster, and ask yourself why would you pay more for and get less.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Beautiful Image
I absolutley love the image from this tv..Not to mention the price..I checked around and this beat Best But by almost 600! Only thing I dislike is the spin wheel on the remote, it is way over sensitive and basically pointless. Other than that works great for my video games as well..Except,Fable 2 had really bad motion blur gave me a migraine. But all my others look amazing, must be the way the game is programmed. Easy set up. Sound I don’t really care about from the unit itself since it is hooked up in surround, but I do use it late night and it sounds fine for that.

4 Stars Amazing Product, Terrible Delivery Service
The product itself is truly everything I expected. The only thing stopping it from being a 5 star rating, is the delivery service. Everything from Xbox 360, to PS3, to Blu-Ray movies look amazing on it, and I actually like the functionality and ease of use the TV has. The picture is beautiful, sharp, and the blacks are deep and inky. Having easy access to all the inputs, and the 4 HDMIs, is a great feature. I don’t have any problems with the remote, as I have heard other people complain about. I’ll most likely purchase a Logitech down the road, anyway.

The TV is surprisingly light for its size, which is nice when we wanted to rearrange our living room to accomodate it. I have been researching LCD’s for a while, looking for the right one at a good price, and I am definitely more than satisfied with my purchase.

Now CEVA’s shipping, on the other hand, was absolutely ridiculous. They called me the day before delivery, and asked what floor I lived on (5th), if there is an elevator (no), and what time I would prefer it to be delivered (morning). I took a half day off from work to have it delivered, and they ended up not showing up until almost 4 o’clock. When it finally showed up, I went downstairs to meet the driver. He was unloading it, and asked if there was an elevator, and looked upset when I told him no. I informed him that I indicated to the CEVA agent on the phone that I live in a 5th floor walk-up apartment. He then “asked” me to help him carry it up. Luckily, I am in great physical shape, but he was panting and wheezing by the time we reached the top. He then realized that he left his truck in the middle of the street, and vehicles were honking at him to move it. I told him he should go down and move it, but he refused. He then said “All I have to do is turn it on.” I had to tell him to be careful, as he hurridly opened the box and put the TV on my stand. He then uttered “There, beuatiful, it works” and had me sign the delivery form. I quickly made sure it did indeed work with my Xbox360 before he left, which was a challenge, as he dashed out of my apartment.

Everything did work fine, but I did file a complaint with CEVA, although it was free shipping, so what do you expect? White-glove, it was not. Amazon handled things great on their end, but go with a different shipping service, that has actual white-glove service and installation.

5 Stars Beautiful Set
Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color

I’ve had this set for about two weeks now. I bought from Service

Net Solutions LLC thru Amazon. The delivery people brought the set into the house, unpacked it, plugged it in to insure that it worked, then cleaned up the trash. Can’t beat that for service. The “touch of color” looks really nice. It’s a subtle red top & bottom and I think most people wouldn’t have a problem with it clashing with their decor. I’ve mounted the set up off the floor so that its slightly above my level line of site, kinda on the same order as a theater setting and I have no reflection issues. Just a beautiful picture, that we’re quite pleased with. You can see an obvious difference in picture quality between an HD picture and a non-HD picture. That is to be expected, but its still an excellent quality picture. I’m pleased with the purchase.

5 Stars Very happy with our decision
My wife and I waited a long time before buying a new TV, and we’re very happy with our purchase. Great picture, lots inputs for DVD player, video game systems, etc., and it’s a nice looking TV to boot.

5 Stars Great, but…is so much detail an asset?
Just to make clear from the start, everything I thought this set would be, it is: incredibly detailed picture, very flexible set up options for those who like to fine tune the settings, lots of connectivity options, etc. Unlike some reviews I read, the “touch of color” red around the perimeter of the frame is no big deal – not very visible one way or the other. I also read about how people dislike the remote. While it is true it is not well suited to control anything but the TV, it’s fine for that, at least for me.

The reason I wanted to add a review to the many more detailed ones available is to point out something I had not read in other reviews. The incredible detail of the set, particularly with Blu-Ray, is something of a mixed blessing. I didn’t realize it until I owned the set, but the detail removes some of the magic of watching a movie. The softness of the older display technologies added something to the other worldliness of movies. In many interior scenes, seeing absolutely everything in such stark detail makes the fact they were shot on a set much more obvious. To me, this detracts a bit from the overall movie experience by making the scenes more prosaic. Outdoor shots don’t suffer from this problem, but shots with lots of CGI effects suffer from it more. I watched parts of the Two Towers portion of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy last night, for instance, and the climactic battle scenes at Helm’s Deep at the end of the movie lost some credibility, to my eye, because they show too much detail and thus seem less real, paradoxically.

The preceding is obviously a very personal reaction to watching a fine HDTV set that can show such granular detail, but wanted to share since I haven’t read any similar comments.
